Job Purpose
The General Miner is responsible for ensuring full compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) regulations, maintaining discipline within the team, and creating a safe, productive working environment. The role also involves supervising daily mining activities and ensuring employees are properly trained and equipped.
Key Responsibilities

Enforce Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and all applicable regulations

Observe and enforce Codes of Practice, procedures, directives, and instructions

Maintain discipline of employees under your supervision

Conduct daily on-the-job coaching and on-site training (recorded in logbooks)

Ensure safe working conditions and apply risk assessments using the Risk Matrix
-
Empower workers to stop unsafe work when health or safety is at risk

Assess employees’ competency before assigning tasks

Enforce correct use of PPE and record non-compliance
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric)

Blasting Certificate
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Stoping Miner / Crew Captain

Knowledge of legal and safety requirements
