Purpose of the Job

As a Baker and brand ambassador for Checkers Bakery, you bring joy to customers by ensuring they have access to fresh, high-quality baked goods every day. You’ll follow Checkers’ recipes, production schedules, and display standards to deliver delicious products that enhance the customer experience while maintaining top hygiene and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and produce a wide range of quality bakery products (bread, rolls, pastries, and more).
  • Apply and maintain food safety, hygiene, and housekeeping standards at all times.
  • Plan, prepare, and execute production efficiently according to bakery schedules.
  • Ensure freshness, presentation, and consistency in all bakery items.
  • Focus on maximizing sales, minimizing waste, and improving bakery efficiency.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and ensure satisfaction with all bakery products.
  • Coach and assist bakery assistants and junior bakers to enhance production quality and capacity.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Completed or currently working towards Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent qualification.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Baker or Baker’s Assistant in a retail baking environment, with hands-on experience preparing and baking a variety of goods (bread, pastries, rolls, etc.).

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of food preparation techniques, presentation methods, and quality standards.
  • Understanding of food safety, hygiene, and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Act requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to product quality.
  • Creativity and passion for baking.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused retail environment.
