Job Description
Tygerberg Hospital is inviting applications for the position of Chief Porter. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with hospital porter experience and supervisory skills who are looking to advance their careers within the Western Cape Department of Health.

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Educational Requirements
- General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 (Standard 7).
Experience Requirements
- Relevant experience in porter services within a hospital environment.
- Supervisory experience.
- Basic experience with the Staff Performance Management System (SPMS).
Skills and Competencies
Successful candidates should possess:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of the Dead on Arrival (DOA) protocol.
- Knowledge of corpse removal procedures.
- Understanding of patient folder handling protocols.
- Knowledge of grievance procedures and disciplinary processes within the public service.
- Strong leadership and staff management skills.
Inherent Job Requirements
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
The Chief Porter will be responsible for:
- Supervising and managing porter personnel effectively.
- Ensuring timely transportation of patients to treatment areas.
- Facilitating professional communication and respectful handover of deceased persons to relevant stakeholders.
- Enforcing disciplinary procedures and maintaining workplace standards.
- Overseeing the collection and cleaning of wheelchairs and trolleys.
- Ensuring blood hampers are collected as required.
- Performing supervisory administrative functions.
- Providing support to the Administrative Officer.
