Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 – Essential
  • Degree or Diploma in Safety Management, Engineering or related field
  • 1-2 years’ experience in mining, safety or operational environments

Safety management qualifications such as SAMTRAC, COMSOC or equivalent are advantageous.

Experience across surface and/or underground operations is also advantageous.

Required Experience

Candidates should have proven experience in:

  • Safety management systems implementation
  • Risk assessment and compliance
  • Incident investigation and reporting
  • Audit and inspection programmes

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead safety and health management systems across surface and underground operations
  • Drive implementation of safety plans and programmes
  • Monitor and improve mine safety performance
  • Lead operational and project risk assessments
  • Ensure compliance with MHSA, OHSA and applicable safety legislation
  • Develop and maintain safety procedures and standards
  • Coordinate safety audits and inspections
  • Conduct internal audits and support external audits
  • Lead investigations into serious and critical incidents
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Develop preventative action plans
  • Support operations, engineering and project teams
  • Monitor safety KPIs
  • Maintain safety reporting systems and dashboards
  • Lead and manage Safety Officers and safety teams
  • Support safety and risk-management training
  • Liaise with regulators and external stakeholders
  • Provide safety guidance to management, operational teams and contractors
