Eastern Cape Department of Health Laundry Worker Jobs 2026 (X7 Posts) – No Experience Required

The Eastern Cape Department of Health is recruiting 7 Laundry Workers at Frere Tertiary Hospital in Buffalo City Metro. This is an entry-level government job opportunity for applicants with an NQF Level 1 or 2 / ABET Level 2 certificate or equivalent, and no previous work experience is required.

Successful candidates will earn R144 024 – R169 656 per annum (Level 02) and will provide laundry services at the hospital.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

• NQF Level 1 or 2 (ABET Level 2 certificate or equivalent) with no experience
• Understanding of a laundry setup
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work shifts, especially night shift
• Ability to rotate areas in the laundry
• Honest and reliable
• Physical strength and ability to cope with the physical demands of the position
• Ability to work as a team and/or independently

Laundry Worker Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for rendering laundry services and maintaining a safe and clean working environment in accordance with health and safety standards.

Key duties include:

• Collect linen from relevant depots
• Keep accurate records of linen collected and returned
• Prepare and disinfect linen for washing
• Follow procedures for washed and cleaned linen
• Inspect, mend and mark laundry
• Operate washing machines, dryers, ironing equipment and pressers
• Iron, fold, count and pack laundered items
• Seal linen bags
• Collect and deliver linen to clients
• Sort, count and record dirty linen
• Monitor laundry equipment temperatures
• Keep laundry equipment and machines in a proper state
• Report machine defects to the supervisor
• Request equipment servicing when required
• Perform other laundry responsibilities as directed by the supervisor
