Job Description

Electrician HT Services – UTS Job Type: Permanent

Job Purpose To safely install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and machinery with a strong focus on High Tension (HT) / Medium Voltage (MV) networks to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Grade 12 / STD 10 (with Mathematics and Physical Science) / NQF Level 4
  • Recognised relevant Trade qualification (Section 13 or 26D) OR Proof of recognised completed apprenticeship
  • NTC 2 (relevant four subjects)
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence (essential – must be able to attend callouts)
  • Minimum 3 years working experience as an Electrician, of which 2 years must include:
    • MV (33 kV & 6.6 kV) cable installation, termination, fault finding & repairs
    • Construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of MV electrical networks including switchgear
    • Substation maintenance
    • MV testing equipment
    • Conveyor maintenance and repairs
    • Maintenance and repairs of overhead cranes
  • Valid Red Ticket or medical fitness to obtain one

Competencies

  • Knowledge of basic health and safety principles
  • Understanding of basic electrical and mechanical engineering principles
  • Knowledge of flammable energy sources and safety aspects
  • Ability to perform basic fire fighting and first aid
  • Ability to respond to hazardous and emergency conditions

Key Performance Areas

  • Attend to callouts regarding electrical breakdowns
  • Install batteries and design/construct Single and Three Phase Circuits
  • Construct and commission Low/Medium/High Voltage networks
  • Plan and organise electrical maintenance including spares
  • Inspect, maintain, and perform fault finding on MV networks and equipment
  • Install and maintain MV and LV equipment
  • Assist contractors as required
  • Maintain high standards in SHEQ management
