Job Overview
South African National Parks (SANParks) is offering 22 Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) employment opportunities for Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors in the Kruger National Park – Nxanatseni Region.
This is a fixed-term contract opportunity until 31 March 2027. Successful candidates will contribute to protected area integrity, fence monitoring, waste removal, and community environmental awareness while gaining valuable experience in conservation.
Position highlights:
- Number of Positions: 22
- Location: Kruger National Park (Nxanatseni Region)
- Contract Duration: Fixed-term until 31 March 2027
- Daily Wage: R208 per day (EPWP rate)
- Accommodation: Incumbents will stay outside the park
Minimum Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 / NCV Level 4
- Minimum 1 year experience in environmental monitoring activities
- Proficiency in English and one other local language (good verbal and written communication)
- Experience in recording information and basic report writing
- Physically fit and healthy
- No criminal record
- Valid Police Clearance Certificate (or proof of application)
- Willing to work flexible hours, weekends, after hours, and public holidays
- Successful candidates must undergo a medical fitness assessment
Key Responsibilities
- Protected area integrity and wildlife security support
- Monitor and report on fence damage and problem animals
- Daily fence maintenance and monitoring
- Waste removal along the fence line
- Camp patrols and general cleaning
- Report damaged fences and security-related incidents
- Participate in community and environmental awareness programmes
- Assist with conservation activities when required
- Report any suspected poaching activities immediately
