About the General Laboratory Assistant Role SANBS is recruiting a General Laboratory Assistant in Durban North to support inventory and processing operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for blood hamper preparation, packing, stock management, bio-hazardous waste disposal, and general laboratory cleaning duties according to relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

This permanent position is ideal for reliable, detail-oriented individuals with Grade 12 (Mathematics + Science) who can maintain high standards of safety, hygiene, and accuracy in a medical laboratory environment.

Key Performance Areas

  • Blood hamper preparation, collection, packing of received stock, and stock counts
  • Bio-hazardous waste disposal according to SOPs
  • Daily laboratory duties and cleaning
  • Ensure SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality) compliance and maintain a safe working environment
  • General support functions in the laboratory

Requirements

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and 1 Science subject
  • No prior experience required
  • Physically fit with reasonable endurance and mobility
  • Proficient eyesight
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as required
