Immigration Officer: Inspectorate (106 Positions) Department of Home Affairs Salary: R280 278 – R330 162 per annum (Level 6) Contract Type: Permanent Closing Date: Not specified (Apply promptly)

Job Purpose To enforce the Immigration Act (No. 13 of 2002 as amended) and related legislation by detecting, tracing, detaining, and deporting illegal foreigners, while supporting law enforcement investigations and ensuring compliance with immigration regulations.

Available Positions (Selected Examples) Eastern Cape – Multiple Medium & Large Offices (Butterworth, Idutywa, Peddie, Mdantsane, Graaff-Reinet, Grahamstown, Motherwell, Cofimvaba, Aliwal North, Engcobo, Mqanduli, Libode, Bizana, Matatiele, Mount Fletcher, Sterkspruit, Mthatha, Qumbu, East London, Gqeberha) Free State – Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu, Zastron, Koffiefontein, Welkom, Bultfontein, Phuthaditjhaba, Bloemfontein, Harrismith Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape & Western Cape – Various offices (full list includes Nelspruit, Barberton, Kimberley, George, Paarl, Cape Town, etc.)

Minimum Requirements

  • Undergraduate qualification in Law, Public Management, Public Administration, Policing, Criminology, Forensics, or Criminal Justice (NQF Level 6)
  • Basic understanding of the Refugees Act, Immigration Act, and South African Constitution
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B/C1/C/EC1)
  • Valid Public Driver’s Permit (PDP)
  • Willingness to travel outside borders and work extended hours

Key Duties

  • Detect, trace, detain, and deport illegal foreigners
  • Conduct inspections, investigations, and prosecutions
  • Issue notices, admission of guilt fines, and detention warrants
  • Provide support on law enforcement and anti-corruption cases
  • Participate in operations with other security cluster agencies
  • Present evidence in court and departmental hearings
  • Monitor records of all cases and ensure compliance with permit conditions
  • Safekeep state properties and assets
