Limpopo Department of Health Recruiting 428 EPWP General Workers for Food Services

The Limpopo Department of Health is inviting suitably qualified South African candidates to apply for 428 Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Food Services positions across hospitals in Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe, and Waterberg Districts.

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend and gain valuable workplace experience within public healthcare institutions while supporting food preparation, food safety, meal distribution, and cleaning operations.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • N6 in Catering and Hospitality Management from a TVET College
  • Computer literacy including:

Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should have:

  • Knowledge of supplies and inventory control
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to read and write effectively
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment and supplies safely
  • Ability to lead and train students
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy objects
  • Knowledge of food service line set-up and temperature requirements
  • Food preparation and cooking skills
  • Knowledge of food presentation techniques and quality standards

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Complying with HACCP food safety standards
  • Food preparation and cooking for normal diets
  • Food preparation and cooking for therapeutic diets
  • Portioning and serving meals according to ward diet lists
  • Delivering meals to hospital wards
  • Collecting meal delivery carts after meal service
  • Preparing soft and liquid diets
  • Assisting with food storage and stock management
  • Packaging and labelling therapeutic diets
  • Preparing trays and meal components
  • Washing dishes and kitchen equipment
  • Cleaning work areas, floors, tables, ovens, and facilities
  • Handling dishwashing equipment
  • Maintaining food trolleys and service areas
  • Emptying waste bins and managing waste disposal
  • Supplying clean cutlery and crockery
  • Reporting faults, breakages, and incidents
  • Performing general food service duties as assigned
