Messenger / Driver (REF: DOCS: 06/06/2026) Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Location: Bhisho, Eastern Cape Job Type: Permanent Salary: R201 093 per annum (Level 04)

Job Purpose To provide reliable messenger and driving services for the safe transportation of passengers, official documents, mail, and parcels while maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with safety and departmental procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
  • Minimum 0 – 1 year driver/messenger working experience
  • Valid South African Driver’s Licence (Code 10 / C1)
  • Professional Driver’s Permit (PDP)
  • Knowledge of National Traffic Regulations and local routes

  • Ability to assess vehicle roadworthiness
  • Experience in handling confidential and classified documents

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drive light and medium motor vehicles to transport passengers and deliver items (mail, documents, parcels)
  • Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Shuttle employees to various official destinations
  • Collect and deliver official documents, mail, and parcels
  • Adhere to safety protocols and traffic regulations
  • Check vehicle condition (oil, water, tyres, etc.) before driving
  • Refer vehicles for servicing and report mechanical defects
  • Keep vehicle clean at all times
  • Complete logbooks, obtain authorisations, and keep all receipts
  • Assist with checking of logbooks
  • Provide support in the registry office and perform any other duties as delegated by the supervisor

Location Note Bhisho, Eastern Cape – administrative capital. Suitable for candidates based in East London, King William’s Town, or surrounding areas. Public transport is limited, so own reliable transport is recommended.
