Job Description

Road Worker Reference Number: REFS/050221 Directorate: Roads Maintenance and Fleet Services Number of Posts: 54 Salary: R170 226 per annum (Plus Benefits)

Job Purpose To perform routine road construction, maintenance, and related infrastructure tasks to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained roads across the province.

Minimum Requirements

• NQF Level 1 qualification or ABET Level 4 certificate (or equivalent)
• No previous work experience required

Knowledge & Skills

• Ability and willingness to work under pressure
• Good communication skills (added advantage)
• Ability to work effectively in a team
• Ability to read and write

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform routine road construction and maintenance activities according to approved work programmes and safety standards
• Carry out pothole patching, crack sealing, surfacing, and re-gravelling of roads
• Construct, repair, and maintain road earthworks, culverts, side drains, stormwater drainage systems, ditches, outlets, and concrete channels
• Clean and maintain road reserves, sidewalks, drainage structures, rest areas, and other road infrastructure
• Install, replace, repair, and clean road traffic signs, road markings, delineators, and other road furniture
• Assist with erection, repair, and maintenance of road fencing, steel guardrails, gabions, and pipe-laying works
• Operate and maintain hand tools, small plant, and specialised equipment
• Safeguard departmental tools, equipment, and materials and report any losses or defects

Location Note Positions are spread across Gauteng. Candidates must be physically fit for outdoor, labour-intensive work in all weather conditions.
