Job Description

The Office of the Chief Justice is inviting applications for a Security Officer position at the KwaZulu-Natal Local Division of the High Court in Durban.

This opportunity is suitable for candidates with security industry experience and a valid PSIRA certificate who are interested in working within the Judiciary and public service environment.

The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Grade 10 (ABET Level 3) or equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA
  • Basic Security Officer’s Course
  • At least Grade C security qualification
  • Valid PSIRA certificate
  • Minimum of one year experience in the security industry

The following will serve as an added advantage:

  • Valid driver’s licence

Shortlisted candidates will also undergo a pre-entry practical exercise as part of the assessment process.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining security and safety within the court premises. Duties include:

  • Performing access control functions
  • Verifying visitor appointments and directing visitors accordingly
  • Managing admission control registers and visitor cards
  • Operating walk-through metal detectors
  • Preventing unauthorised persons and dangerous objects from entering the premises
  • Reporting security breaches and non-compliance
  • Monitoring movement of equipment, documents, and stores
  • Inspecting vehicles entering and leaving the premises
  • Operating CCTV and control room security systems
  • Monitoring all activities and incidents within the premises
  • Conducting building and premises patrols
  • Responding to alarms and emergency situations
  • Recording incidents in occurrence books and registers
  • Liaising with supervisors and court management
