Job Description

Unitrans is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the General Worker position within its Consumer business unit. The position is based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and is offered on a temporary fixed-term basis.

The successful candidate will assist truck drivers with loading and offloading trucks and perform cleaning and general duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 10
  • Be medically fit
  • Be reliable
  • Work in a safe manner and adhere to all safety requirements
  • Be prepared to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Have a clean criminal record
  • Have own reliable transport to and from work
  • Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery used in cleaning
  • Ability to walk, bend, push, pull and lift repetitively during working hours
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage and disposal methods
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to complete required tasks without direct supervision
  • Ability to carry out all reasonable instructions from the Supervisor

Duties & Responsibilities

The General Worker will be responsible for:

  • Assisting a truck driver to load and/or offload
  • Ensuring outside walkways remain clear and free of debris
  • Notifying building management of any repairs required
  • Cleaning the entire premises
  • Maintaining the environment
  • Performing ad hoc duties that may be required
