Utilities Operator: Boiler Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) Location: Devland, Gauteng Job Type: Permanent Reference: CCB260630-8

Job Purpose To operate and monitor steam boilers and associated systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant boiler house operations while supporting production needs in the manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities Boiler Operation and Monitoring

  • Operate and monitor steam boilers to maintain optimal pressure and temperature levels
  • Perform pre-start, start-up, normal operation, and shutdown procedures safely
  • Adjust controls for fuel, air, and water feed to ensure efficient combustion and steam output

Boiler House Inspections and Checks

  • Conduct routine boiler inspections and housekeeping per standard operating procedures
  • Monitor instrumentation, control panels, and safety devices
  • Log and report operational parameters (steam pressure, water level, fuel consumption) hourly

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure full compliance with the OHS Act, Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), and internal safety protocols
  • Carry out safety tests and support statutory inspections
  • Maintain boiler certificates and documentation for audits

Basic Maintenance and Reporting

  • Perform first-line maintenance and report faults to the Team Leader: Utilities
  • Assist artisans during shutdowns and planned maintenance
  • Maintain tools, spare parts, and boiler house in a clean and safe condition

Operational Efficiency

  • Monitor fuel and water usage, report anomalies
  • Maintain water treatment parameters (coordinate with service providers)
  • Support utility team in other areas (compressors, refrigeration) as needed

Minimum Requirements Education

  • Minimum: Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
  • Required: Valid Boiler Operator Certificate (Minimum Second Class)
  • Advantageous: Relevant trade certificate (Fitter, Millwright)

Experience

  • 2–3 years’ experience operating industrial steam boilers in a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to boiler water treatment practices
  • Familiarity with high-pressure steam systems and safety procedures
  • FMCG, beverage, or food production experience (preferred)

Skills

  • Operation of coal, oil, or gas-fired boilers
  • Interpretation of boiler performance parameters
  • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Knowledge of OHS Act and Pressure Equipment Regulations
  • Computer literacy (MS Excel for logging/reporting)
