Job Description

The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government is recruiting for a Farm Aid: Breeding/Reproduction/Animal Housing and Welfare position. Applicants must have an Abet level 2 certificate or equivalent.

Vacancy Details

Minimum Requirements

• Abet level 2 certificate or equivalent.

Knowledge and Competencies

Knowledge and understanding of the following:

• Farm infrastructure construction and maintenance.
• General maintenance of infrastructure.
• General Farmwork.
• Working with farm animals and pastures.
• Working with heavy draft horses.

Skills in the following:

• Communication (verbal).
• Numeracy.
• Literacy.
• Driving.
• Operating equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Crop production:

• Irrigation of crops.
• Soil cultivation and preparation (cleaning and hoeing).

Livestock:

• Care for sick livestock.
• Dipping, vaccination and dosing.

General activities:

• Cleaning of facilities.
• Disposal of farm waste material.

Infrastructure:

• Maintain and build roads, fences, pipelines, canals, dams, drinking troughs, animal housing and buildings.
• Maintain windmills and water supply system.
