🎯 Position Purpose
The main role is to assist the Train Driver in ensuring safe and efficient train operations.
You will help ensure:
- Freight reaches its destination safely
- Delivery is done on time
- Equipment is handled properly
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
As a Trainee Train Assistant, you will:
🚉 Train Preparation
- Prepare locomotives before departure
- Check and load equipment
- Perform brake tests with the driver
📡 Communication & Safety
- Operate radios and communication tools
- Monitor signals and train movement
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures
🔧 Operations & Shunting
- Assist in coupling/uncoupling locomotives
- Perform shunting duties in yards and sidings
- Update vehicle and train records
🚨 Enroute Duties
- Assist driver during the journey
- Monitor track conditions and signals
- Handle emergencies and protect the train
📝 Administration
- Complete train journals
- Report incidents and deviations
- Submit reports after each shift
🎓 Minimum Requirements
📚 Education
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Must have:
- Mathematics OR
- Physical Science

- Must be 21 years or older
- Minimum height: 1.6m
- Physically fit (vision, hearing, mental fitness)
- Able to carry heavy objects
- Willing to work shifts
